February 11, 2010 - Finca Lerida, Boquette, Panama
An interesting day. In the morning, we hiked with a different guide, on what amounted to a death march. It started well, with more views of a male and female Resplendent Quetzal, and a few other good birds, but it turned into a very long walk, especially the last few miles, with very few birds. Not every walk is exceptionally birdy, but the last 3-4 miles of this walk were simply tedious. We did find a couple of trees crammed full of wood warblers, which was neat (Nancy and I have embarrassing gaps in our east coast warblers). The last hour was also as hot as anything we have experienced so far. A taste of things to come in lower elevations, no doubt.
After lunch and a shower to cool off, we birded the grounds around the lower part of the compound, with pretty good success. There was intermittent light rain, but nothing drenching.
Tomorrow a very early start back to David for the flight to Panama City. Looking forward to seeing Jeff and Dave, and meeting Therese.
