10 Jun 08 - Ulric's Fish Camp, Keoklevek River

A 25 minute riverboat ride down the Ninglingfak River to Hooper Bay, then along the Keoklevek River brought us to Ulric's fish camp and our base camp. Ulric furnished a cooking and dining tent, and erected a large tent for the other three guests. Guide Aaron Lang and I had brought our own tents.

After getting camp set up and before supper, we walked a half-mile loop in the area behind the camp. In just that half mile, we found Semi-palmated and Western Sandpiper, Dunlin, Mew, Sabine's, Glaucous, Glaucous-winged and American Herring Gull, Arctic Tern, Long-tailed and Parasitic Jaeger, Greater White-fronted, Cackling and Emperor Geese, Brant, Sandhill Cranes, Tundra Swans, Spectacled Eider, Red-necked Phalarope, Marbled Godit, Pacific and Red-throated Loon, Northern Pintail and Green-winged Teal.

The bird density is every bit as high as advertised, especially the geese. At times, there were thousands in the sky. Marvelous birding.
