We didn't bird Hidden Valley, but Ron, Mary and Wendy Teel went there after Chan Chich. They have the following report:
Hidden Valley is a great place. The people, guide, food and lodge are all very good. It is a good place to bird as the altitude is about 2500' which is higher than Chan Chich and thus has different birds. Also it is a good place to see Caracol, the tallest Mayan Temple except Tikal. It is in very good condition and has few tourists. The guide, Rick, is very knowledgeable about birds and Mayan history and culture. Some of the birds we saw that we did not see at Chan Chich are the following: Orange Breasted Falcon, Stygian Owl, Common Black Hawk, Wedge-Tailed Saberwing, Azure-Crowned Hummingbird, Tody Motmot, White-whiskered Puffbird, Golden-Oliver Woodpecker, Band-Backed Wren, Rufus-Capped Warbler, Golden-Hooded Tanager, Barred Antshrike, Green Jay and Yellow-Backed Oriole. Hidden Valley is a good addition to Chan Chich and we highly recommend it.
